3 Hot Tips for Protecting Your Domains
- Always ensure the email address used is YOURS and remains under your control. If someone from your business or company registers the domain under their own name and email address, and then leaves, you'll be stuck with a domain name you can't access or control. Control of a domain is not based on whose credit card was used, or who the CEO is. Control is determined by the details attached to the account – stored in the global WHOIS database. If you're not the person who registered it then legally the domain is not yours.
- Register all your domains under a single name and account. If multiple people register domain names using various accounts you risk losing (or even forgetting!) about some of your domain names.
- Make a note of when your domain name is due to expire.
We'll send you an email to remind you, but you should always know when your domain is due for renewal so that you don't allow it to lapse back into the public sphere where it may be snapped up by your competitors.
